If salvage is folk tradition and elevate is fine jewellery, then return is concept art.
In RETURN, we are mixing antique precious metalwork, mixing it with workshop scraps, melting it, and casting it into the forms of crystals and gemstones. This is a poetic attempt to RETURN them to Nature. The stones we make are a mixture of gold, silver, copper, platinum, rhodium, zinc, nickel, iron, aluminum, tin... pretty much everything but lead and uranium. We set these stones in silver jewellery to offer our patrons the chance to wear a stone made of history, and connect to their cultural inheritance and to the natural world.
See the first three pendants in RETURN at Propeller Gallery (30 Abell Street, Toronto - just south of The Drake Hotel) until June 17.
